Harold & Maude at the Charing Cross Theatre

blog, cultural stories, theatre

A couple of weeks ago a friend messaged me while I was at work and said she could get £7 tickets for that evening’s performance of Harold & Maude at the Charing Cross Theatre and asked if I wanted to come. My plans for the evening had just fallen through, so I said why not, and joined her.

The Divide at the Old Vic

blog, cultural stories, theatre

The Divide played at the Old Vic for only a short run. It was not a play in the conventional sense, but rather a narrative for voices, but most interestingly of all, it was a sci-fi play taking place in a dystopian future. That last was the big selling point for me. I love sci-fi and fantasy. I feel that once we throw off the shackles of realism and “true to life” then we can get down to really investigating the issues that are on our mind. A lot of science fiction goes beyond pretty stories and exciting world building, and delves into social commentary far more than your classic genres of romance, thrillers or who-done-its do.

Waiting for Godot at the Skrow Theatre in Athens

blog, cultural stories, theatre

One of the reasons I went AWOL from my blog for so long – and now have less time to spend on it – is that I started having a busy social life. And one of the things I started doing (again) was going to plays, concerts and the like. When rejigging my blog, I thought it might as well add a new category where I can share my thoughts and experiences on all things cultural. So welcome to the first post in my “cultural stories” section!

For the christmas holidays I went home to Athens. While there my sister persuaded me to join her at a small independent fringe theatre to see a showing of Beckett’s Waiting for Godot.
