It’s yet again time for the London Design Festival! This year I went to 100% Design on Wednesday, designjunction on Thursday, and plan on visiting Open House over the weekend.
Just like last year, 100% Design was help at Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre 2. The layout was pretty similar to last year too, which made it easy to just breeze through.
I showed up relatively early because I wanted to catch Phillippe Starck‘s talk. Just like Richard Rogers last year, it was a brilliant talk. Starck was funny, smart, irreverent, insightful and very non-PC. He had some clever and sensitive insights to share about the design process, but also about life, ambitions, dreams, creativity and work.
Afterwards I meandered around the stalls, took a couple of photos – less that last year because I felt like I had already seen almost everything.
Some products did stand out though.
* The Printed Wallpaper Company: interesting wallpaper that can be printed to a design of your choice, or any from their large library.
* Artolis by Barrisol: interesting fabric wallpaper that can be printed to very large sizes to a design of your choice, or any from their large library.
* Wooden furniture and lamps by Loic Bard
* Romagno Marmi: a large variety of italians marbles by
* Lucy Turner: colourful and bold designs on furniture and wall coverings.
* Anne Kyyro Quinn: beautiful and fun acoustic woollen wall coverings.
* The Re Rag Rugs by Studio Brieditis & Evans: rugs made out of left over cotton fabric from factories and unused cotton clothes. The rugs are hand-knotted into beautiful designs in the traditional swedish style.
* AirCharge: an elegant and useful way to charge your mobile devices without needing a plug or your charger. Very good idea for cafes and restaurants in particular.
* The Study Bed: an amazingly elegant solution to the problem of small houses. A desk and a bed in one.
